Zachey's 18 Month Stats

A little behind in posting this! Took him to the doctor last week:

Height - 33.5 inches (50th percentile)
Weight - 27 lbs (60th percentile)

In his defense, we didn't take off any clothes or his wet diaper as he is a big boy now and can stand on the scale! He did great with his 3 shots (we did flu shot as well.)

Kenna did.......less-well with her flu shot. We talked about it a few days before and all day she was stressed about getting a shot. Her teacher told me that during "news" time at school (they sit in a circle and the directoress asks if anyone has any news) Kenna stood up and said that today she had to get a shot. Obviously she was stressing over it. By the time we got to the doctor and made it back to the office, she started freaking out. It took 3 nurses to hold her down and Zachey got really mad. He started yelling at the nurses for hurting his sister. Was very sweet in a sort of sad way!

Oh well, both kids are immunized! At least with Kenna it is only once a year!!

The Moon

Kenna has been very interested in the moon as of late. How do I go there? Look at the moon mommy! Is it a full moon tonight? Etc.

Tonight I sent her up to grab books and come downstairs to read them. After a few minutes I went up to see what she was doing. She was sitting on the stairs, looking out the window. I said "what are you doing" She replies with "mom, I just can't stop looking at the moon! Its soooo pretty!"

I can't tell you how many days in a row now we have spoken about astronauts, NASA and what you have to do to go to the moon...so fun!

Silly Moments

Zachey is OBSESSED with shoes. There really is nothing else to say about that....he has been since he was able to walk. He is constantly trying to put his shoes on, bring us our shoes, put shoes away...it really is his one passion. I caught him trying mine on and walking around. Thank goodness they are flats!

This last weekend we actually had a free saturday, it was amazing! Kenna did have a soccer game at 9am, but after that she came home and Andersen's asked if the kids wanted to come over and play and have dinner. After nap we headed over and the kids ran around outside, played in the sandbox and on the slide, and in the fountain. We had tacos and they easily fell right asleep while were there. We took advantage of it and played a new game that the boys ventured out to get during bathtime. It was pretty fun, but by like 930 tara and I were tired (probably from getting up at 430 every morning!)

On Sunday Damon and Nolan came over for dinner (shelly had to work.) THe kids played and we decided it would be a great time to hollow out the pumpkins! We are still LOVING the nice weather and hoping it holds out for trick or treating!!!

Apple Orchard

This year we had a heck of a time trying to plan a trip to the apple orchard! We just have not had any time!! Luckily we found a Thursday evening when Gentrys were also free :) We packed dinner, the stroller and the kids and jumped in the car to meet daddy there after work!

The weeknights are definitely not as crowded, but some of the fun stuff wasn't working. The tractor ride, hay ride to the pumpkin patch, food places and other things were closed. We will most likely go on a weekend next year when everything is going! We had a great time with Gona and Baca and Gentrys!

Busy Busy Busy

I think you can tell by the lack of posting that life has been NUTS!

Mondays - dance
Tuesdays - preschool and soccer practice
Wednesday - school for Brandi
Thursday - preschool and kindermusik
Friday - crash
Weekends - mixtures of birthday parties, soccer games, shopping, BBQs, orchard and farmers market visits and events.

In between the craziness I cram in homework, laundry, cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping, 5am workouts daily, bill paying, vet and doctor visits, dance fittings, straightening the endless tornado of kid toys, spending 5 minutes talking with my husband, meeting with clients for my practicum...deep breath. Seems like life is FLYING by! We are so busy! But it is a good kind of busy, one that the kids are really embrasing and thriving in. I often struggle with thoughts such as, should I be home more? Am I missing out on the best years of my kids lives? Something I am sure that all parents struggle with, finding that healthy balance.

She really had a great first season. In her game yesterday she scored her first goal! So proud :)

Visit to Colorado Springs

I had been planning on visiting April in October for a few months now, as I thought she was moving to Germany in November. Well, the army had other plans, and her move has been delayed indefinitely. So, I wasn't going to cancel my trip, and I had been planning a surprise baby shower for April for a few months at this point :)

I arrived Friday afternoon and we went to the spa. After a bit of a scheduling snafu with the spa, we weren't able to get in for the massage April had booked for us. They squeezed us in for mani/pedis and they did a good job and we enjoyed the pampering. We went to dinner and I got to check out her wide array of baby boy clothing :)

The next day we went shopping all day. I was on the search for a new purse, and it was fun to look at baby stuff :) Then I had to trick April into going to her shower that afternoon (I think she had an idea of what was going on.) 

We arrived at Montegue's Tea House at around 3:00pm. Her friends were all there waiting, much to my relief! I had been planning this virtually for months and it really worked out wonderfully! I had the decorations, supplies and prizes shipped to her friend Emily, and luckily she set everything up early!

We started the day with a piece of advice from everyone. Then I had the girls make their rendition of Baby Woelke with magazine clippings...hilarious! We had snacks and moved on to "The price is right." After some more chatting and cake, we finished the day with a video from Nate. I asked April questions and the guests had to guess whether or not Nate answered the same way. It was really fun, and turned out just as I had planned!

On Sunday we had the second half of our spa day with facials and massages. We went out to dinner at a great restaurant and got to make jewelry with April's mom. At some point we also did a prenatal yoga DVD hosted by a pregnant trapeze artist...she was hard core!

April had a craving for crepes...and I know you never deny a pregnant woman food! We went to Manitou Springs on Monday. Its a great little trendy shopping area with a restaurant focusing on crepes. We shopped all morning, and checked out the old fashioned penny arcade.

I made it home late monday night, and we have been running ever since! Busy time of year for the Skinners! I had such a good time with April and talking about babies...so fun!

Zip-a-dee-doo-dah

Between Disney sing-a-long videos at Gona's, our trip to Disneyworld, and school, Kenna has been singing this song non-stop. It is such a cheery message that we love it!

Florida Vacation

I have been somewhat avoiding posting the vacation because we did SOOO much in a week that the task was rather daunting. But, I have some time at the moment and thought two weeks was long enough to wait! 

I started talking about going to Disneyworld with Josh about this time last year. I had great memories of it as a kid, and because of McKenna's LOVE of princesses, I thought that it would be great to go before she lost the magic. I also thought the strategy of going the week after labor day would be good to avoid lines and get cheaper prices! I invited my family to come, and we opted to rent a giant house, rather than pay the crazy hotel fees! Ended up being just the perfect trip, aside from the fact that it flew by way too fast!

The first night was fun. We found the house, and thanks to Josh's iphone, we found the combination (apparently I forgot to print that page?) We rented it through vrbo.com and just couldn't have picked a better place! 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom, with plenty of room to spread out and not step on eachother! We went shopping and got some food for lunches and breakfast. That way we were able to eat a little healthier, and far cheaper!

The first day we got up early and made it to the magic kingdom right when it opened!

The only goal I had on this trip was for McKenna to meet the princesses. She had talked about nothing else for weeks! We discovered that 3 of her favorites were in the same meeting place in Toon Town. So after we did Peter Pan, Pooh Bear, and the rest of the rides in FantasyLand, Josh, McKenna and I went to toon town, and the rest of the gang went to Tomorrowland.

Whoever designed this "Princess Meeting Place" was very smart. The three most popular princesses each had a little room. They had about a two minute conversation with each girl and then signed their book and posed for a picture. McKenna was just in awe.

We thought that since we were there we might as well get in the line to meet the fairies as well. I don't know much about the fairies, as I haven't watched the movies, but I think McKenna just liked having them sign her book.

--I love Disney, because every detail is thought about, even the decorations while waiting in line. For the fairies the room got smaller and smaller and the decorations got bigger and bigger, as if you were becoming fairy size--

We stopped for lunch and then headed to Frontierland and Adventureland. I was so proud of Kenna as she went on Thunder Mountain Railroad rollercoaster, Splash Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean and wasn't even scared! She loved it!

That evening we decided to head to Epcot as they were having a really neat fireworks and light show. While we were there we did the Nemo ride and the ride that goes through the big ball. For dinner we went to the coral reef which has a HUGE tank that spans the width of the entire restaurant. Sea turtles, dolphin and sting rays would swim right by while you ate! The food was amazing and it was a great choice!

After a very long day, Kenna fell asleep on the way to the firework show. But she woke up and enjoyed it, but zonked right out on the way back to the car. We went for 12 hours that day and she was quite the trooper!

The next morning was one I was really looking forward to. Breakfast with Cinderella! We got to go in her castle and she invited a lot of her princess friends to join us!

--and the mean stepmother and stepsisters, they were hilarious yelling "CHEESE" obnoxiously and acting annoyed to be there, we laughed a lot!--

After our breakfast we met up with the rest of my family at Hollywood Studios. This area is really geared more towards older kids, but we found lots to do! Josh and I rode the Aerosmith roller coaster right away, which ended up being my favorite ride. Completely in the dark and blasting Aerosmith music, what could be better?

Later, much to my dismay, I lost the battle of "should McKenna go on Tower of Terror." My vote was of course no, but Josh assured me she would be fine. Well, halfway through the ride she started crying, and by the end she was not happy. Luckily it was over and some quick hugs and a Mickey sucker really cured everything!

We had fast passes for Toy Story (which was probably the most popular ride in any of the parks, and without the fast pass could have been a two hour wait! As you walk through you shrink to toy size and all the surroundings look really big.

We really like that ride. You shoot 3D creatures and you get your score at the end. Kenna really got into it, and did pretty well! Brandon definitely dominated though...I didn't even come close to his score!

That evening we made it home in time to go swimming again. The house we rented had a pretty good sized pool and Daddy, Kenna and Chelsey spent a good amount of time in it!

The next day my family all went to Universal Studios to ride the crazy rollercoasters, while Josh, Kenna and I headed to the beach! It was nice to have a relaxing day with no agenda. Josh did some research and found a great beach right outside of St. Petersburg. It was so beautiful and almost completely deserted!! We changed into our suits and headed for the water.

Kenna did not want to leave, but we also didn't want to get sunburned. Apparently I am a lousy sunscreen applyer because poor Josh got really burned on his back (sorry hunny) :( We decided to just bum around town and see what we could see. I did a search on my GPS for shopping and we stumbled upon this cool boardwalk with lots of shops and restaurants.

We attempted to go on a dolphin viewing charter, but unfortunately there weren't enough people interested at going that early in the day, so we were unable to go. But, we did have fun walking around and looking at some of the silly stores.

After surveying our options, we decided to eat at "the hut" for dinner. They were catching fresh grouper in the bay and then filleting it, cooking it, and putting it on my plate. I had a grouper wrap and got my seafood fix for the trip!

We got back at a decent time again, did bath and bedtime and went to bed early. The next day we went to Sea World. I forgot how amazing these animals could be!

After Sea World we went out to dinner then headed home for a quiet evening. We went swimming then Kenna went to bed and we played settlers of catan (one of my fams favorites) and we all called it a night.

Our last day there we decided to just do all the things we liked again. We started the day at Hollywood Studios and rode the Aerosmith rollercoaster about 4 times :) Then we went on Toy Story again, after running to get a fast pass as soon as the park opened! Then my parents took Kenna back to Disneyworld and we headed to Epcot to do all the countries. We had lunch in Morocco and had gilato for dessert in Italy. Then we met back up with my parents in Disneyworld and did the big rides again: Splash Mountain, Thunder Mountain Railroad, etc. On the way to those rides we saw the princess parade, and at one point I was running with the stroller with McKenna shouting, " Mom HURRY you're gonna miss it!!!" Luckily we caught up and Cinderella looked right at Kenna and blew a kiss. She thought that was the coolest thing ever!

After going on all the rides we decided it was time to finally buy kenna the souvenir she had decided on, Belle's dress. Since we have been home she has worn it probably 8 times and absolutely LOVES getting all dressed up! My parents bought her the matching gloves, wand, and crown. It really is quite cute, but also quite ridiculous!

The next morning was an early one, but we made it to the airport fairly uneventfully. We made it home early and had a great weekend of just relaxing!

The trip flew by way too fast, as I knew it would. We had such a magical and wonderful time looking at something through a 4 year old's eyes! Thank you McKenna for letting us be kids again, and thanks to my family for sharing the memories with us!!
